A prolonged and significant rain event is coming to the Mid-Atlantic region that can actually take us from drought conditions to flooding problems. Several inches of rain will be possible in some spots by the time we get to the middle of next week and strong-to-severe thunderstorms will be included in the mix as well.
Today will turn out to be quite warm and noticeably more humid than yesterday following the passage of a warm front. Temperatures this afternoon should reach into the 80’s and there are likely to be scattered showers and thunderstorms going into the evening hours. On Saturday, a cold front will head towards the east coast and showers and thunderstorms will become increasingly likely as we go through the afternoon hours and then they’ll continue during the evening. Some of the storms that form later tomorrow and tomorrow night and be strong-to-severe and some of the rain will be heavy at times. The threat of showers and thunderstorms will continue through Saturday in the Tennessee Valley as an upper-level low forms over the Ohio Valley. There may be some improvement on Sunday, but it’ll be on the cool side and showers cannot be ruled out.
