A cold front pushed through the region last night and its passage has unleashed another colder-than-normal air mass to the Mid-Atlantic region. Temperatures today will be confined to the low-to-mid 40’s for afternoon highs and then fall into the mid-to-upper 20’s for overnight lows. After a chilly day on Friday, rain should develop late tomorrow night – perhaps mixed with snow initially - and periods of rain are likely on Saturday and some of it can be heavy. The culprit of this soaking rain event will be strong low pressure that moves to a position just off the Mid-Atlantic coastline by early Saturday. Following the storm, another chilly air mass will arrive in the Mid-Atlantic region on Sunday and there will again be a stiff flow of air out of the northwest.
