Discussion

Another major snowstorm is affecting the southern Rockies today and snow will continue heavy at times into early tonight. Winds will also become a major player gusting past 40 mph producing blizzard conditions with considerable blowing and drifting. The snow will taper off early tonight with total accumulations of 6-12 inches in the Denver metro region. Temperatures will drop to very cold levels overnight with single digit lows possible in many locations.

Discussion

A major snowstorm is in store for the southern Rockies from late Friday night into Saturday evening with 6-12 inches of accumulation likely in and around the Denver metro region. A strong storm will cross Colorado later Friday into Saturday and precipitation may begin as a mix of rain and snow showers Friday evening before steady and heavier snow develops after midnight. That heavy snow will continue on Saturday and strong winds will produce some blowing and drifting. Cold weather will remain in the wake of the storm early next week with highs struggling to pass the freezing mark on Sunday and Monday.

Discussion

The weekend will get off to a rather seasonal start temperature-wise with highs in the mid 60’s and there should be plenty of sunshine as well. An onshore flow of air will resume on Sunday and this will bring back the threat for late night and early morning low clouds and fog along coastal locations. Temperatures will become slightly cooler by early next week given this renewed onshore flow of air with highs generally holding in the low 60’s.

Discussion

Another major snowstorm is headed to the southern Rockies for the Friday night/Saturday time frame and it'll include strong winds with blowing and drifting. A cooling trend continues today into Friday and then a strong storm is likely to cross Colorado later Friday into Saturday. Steady snow is likely by about midnight Friday night and it'll continue at a good pace through much of the day on Saturday and significant accumulations of 6-12 inches possible. Cold weather will remain in the wake of the storm early next week with highs struggling to pass the freezing mark on Sunday and Monday.

Thursday

Mostly sunny, cool, low 60’s

7:00 AM | Warmth peaks this afternoon and then it gets progressively colder as we approach the weekend; significant snow threat comes by the weekend

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Partly sunny, becoming milder after a cold start, highs approaching 60 degrees

Tonight

Mainly cloudy, cold, lows in the mid 30’s

Thursday

Mostly cloudy, cooler, maybe a few showers, low 50’s

Thursday Night

Mostly cloudy, cold, breezy, rain or snow showers, near 30

Friday

Mostly cloudy, colder, chance for snow, low-to-mid 40’s

Saturday

Mostly cloudy, cold, chance for snow, mid 30’s

Sunday

Partly sunny, cold, upper 30’s

Monday

Partly sunny, cold, near 40

Discussion

There will be a progressive pattern through the late week time period as zonal flow (ie west-to-east) develops overhead as a ridge of high pressure flattens. An upper level trough of low pressure will quickly move across Colorado on Thursday along with its associated cold front and this will set off a cooling trend that will continue to the weekend. A strong storm will likely cross Colorado late Friday into Saturday and this storm threatens to bring more significant snowfall to the region.

7:00 AM | Nothing too extreme this week; seasonal temperatures for today

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, becoming windy, cool, highs in the low 50’s

Tonight

Becoming partly cloudy, cold, lows in the low 30’s

Wednesday

Partly sunny, milder, upper 50’s

Wednesday Night

Mostly cloudy, chilly, breezy, maybe a few showers, mid 30’s

Thursday

Mostly cloudy, cooler, windy, chance for rain showers during the day, snow showers at night, low 50’s

Friday

Mostly cloudy, colder, chance for snow showers, low 40's

Saturday

Partly sunny, cold, upper 30’s

Sunday

Partly sunny, cold, upper 30’s

Discussion

Dry air will move into the region today riding in on northwest winds along with seasonal temperatures and sunshine. By tomorrow night and Thursday, a weak trough of low pressure will approach from the northwest and affect the region with possible showers, but nothing on the significant side. By the end of the work week, a stronger upper level trough of low pressure could generate some decent snowfall in the southern Rockies as temperatures cool down some from mid-week levels.

7:00 AM | Mild air returns for tomorrow and Wednesday

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, windy, chilly, highs in the upper 40’s

Tonight

Becoming partly cloudy, brisk and cold, lows in the upper 20’s

Tuesday

Mainly sunny, milder, mid-to-upper 50’s

Tuesday Night

Mostly cloudy, chilly, low-to-mid 30’s

Wednesday

Partly sunny, mild, chance for showers, upper 50’s

Thursday

Mostly cloudy, windy, colder, near 50

Friday

Mostly cloudy, cold, upper 30’s

Saturday

Mostly cloudy, milder, low 50’s

Discussion

Temperatures will start off the new week on the chilly side as northwest flow persists throughout the atmosphere. There will be a quick rebound in temperatures, however, by the middle of the week as low pressure approaches the region. Showers are possible by mid-week associated with that low pressure system, and it’ll begin a cooling trend for the second half of the week.
