Discussion

It looks like the first real widespread snow event coming to the southern Rockies since earlier this fall. Snow is likely to develop in the Denver metro region late tonight and continue for much of Wednesday along with very cold and windy conditions. Total snow accumulations from this storm could end up in the 3-6 inch range by later tomorrow and winds will gust up to 30 mph causing considerable blowing and drifting. Surface low pressure will move to near southeast Colorado by late tonight and to the Plains by later Wednesday. Winds will increase out of the north and northeast by earlier tomorrow and continue into Thursday causing blowing snow throughout the region. Looking ahead, the active pattern continues next week as well with another possible snowstorm around Christmas Day (Tuesday).
