Discussion

Ingredients are coming together today for the threat of severe thunderstorm activity in much of the Southeast US including the state of Florida. First, vigorous upper-level low is developing across the Southeast US and this system will only slowly move to the northeast over the next couple of days. Second, moisture will be plentiful around here as deep layer southerly flow ahead of a frontal system will tap tropical air over the Caribbean Sea and bring it into this region. Finally, a strong short wave will help generate surface low pressure over the Midwest and this will contribute to instability in this region. As a result of this unfolding pattern, thunderstorms later today, tonight and on Thursday can reach strong-to-severe levels in central Florida.
