A strong cold front ushered in a cold air mass for the Tennessee Valley and temperatures today will again hold in the 40’s. However, noticeably milder air will arrive on Friday and our high temperatures should get back to the 60 degree mark. A strong cold front has ushered in a cold air mass and temperatures today will be some 15-20 colder than yesterday. In fact, temperatures may hold in the 40’s for highs on Thursday before we warm up noticeably to end the work week with Friday’s highs back near the 60 degree mark.

After a decent day today, a strong cold front will usher in some gusty winds and clouds tonight and then much cooler weather for the mid-week. In fact, temperatures may hold in the 40’s for highs on both Wednesday and Thursday and we may not see 60 degrees again until the end of the work week.

Drier, cooler air has pushed in during the overnight hours it looks like a dry, mild weekend coming with high pressure taking control. Highs this afternoon will be some ten degrees lower than yesterday and we’ll drop to near freezing by early tomorrow morning.

Our unsettled weather pattern will continue for another day across the Tennessee Valley with occasional rain expected and maybe a thunderstorm or two. There is the potential for some heavy rain to get involved and this could lead to flash flooding concerns in parts of the region. The next couple of days will be quite unsettled in the Tennessee Valley with occasional showers and thunderstorms likely as strong low pressure pulls out of the central states and heads towards the Great Lakes region. Some of the rain can be heavy at times over the next 36 hours and some areas will receive as much as an inch and a half of rain before a cold frontal passage takes place on Thursday night. The passage of the frontal system will usher in cooler and dry weather at the end of the work week and the much improved weather conditions should continue through the weekend.

It gets unsettled in northern Alabama later tonight and the threat for showers and thunderstorms will last until later in the week and some of the rain can be heavy at times. A strong storm will pull out of the Central Plains over the next couple of days and head towards the Great Lakes sending some rain in our direction. At the end of the work week, a cold front will slide through the region and we’ll turn noticeably cooler by the weekend and rain-free conditions are expected for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

It’ll stay quite warm over the next several days as a cool shot of air will stay primarily to our north. Highs today and on Friday should be in the upper 70’s, but there will also be a shot at showers and thunderstorms in the Tennessee Valley and some of the storms can reach strong-to-severe levels.
