An upper-level trough will build into the Midwest later today and this system combined with an advancing cool front will create very unsettled conditions around for the mid and late week time periods. While scattered showers and storms will be possible today and tonight an even better chance will come on Wednesday and Thursday with the advance of the cool frontal system. This front will stall out nearby later in the week and that will generate more unsettled condition as we approach the upcoming weekend. The annual Perseid meteor shower peaks this weekend and the weather from this vantage point does not look too promising for viewing.

High pressure ridging continues to exist across the Southeast US and it’ll help produce a hot day around here as we begin another work week along with the chance for showers and thunderstorms. An upper-level trough will try to push eastward by the middle of the week across the Midwest and into the south-central US and this could result in unsettled weather around here as a frontal system pushes our way. High temperatures at or slightly above 90 degrees are likely to continue for much of the week across the Tennessee Valley.

A ridge of high pressure centered over the western Atlantic will continue to dominate the weather scene around here by pumping very warm and humid air into the region. As a result, the daily shot at showers and thunderstorms will continue through the weekend and into next week and high temperatures will reach the 90 degree mark on a daily basis. The tropics remain rather quiet as the combination of Saharan Desert air, wind shear and colder-than-normal waters off of Africa continue to suppress overall activity.

An unusually strong upper-level trough over the south-central US is combining with strong high pressure ridging over the western Atlantic Ocean to persistently pump tropical air from south-to-north along the eastern seaboard. As a result, the threat for showers and thunderstorms will continue on a daily basis right into the weekend throughout much of the eastern third of the nation including right here in the Tennessee Valley.
