A cold, dry air mass will dominate the scene today in the Tennessee Valley and temperatures late tonight could bottom out in the middle 20’s – well below normal for this time of year. In addition to the chill, winds will be noticeable today making it feel cooler than the actual outside air temperature. A more active weather pattern will unfold for the second half of the week. One system may produce some shower activity on Thursday and Friday and then a stronger storm might result in showers and thunderstorms here as we begin the weekend.

Daytime temperatures will have trouble escaping the 40’s and will bottom out in the 20’s into mid-week. The chilly weather pattern we’ve experienced during the past several will continue for much of this week although it’ll start off generally close-to-normal. High temperatures normally reach the middle 60’s this time of year in the northern part of Alabama, but after today, we’ll generally be stuck in the 50’s for much of Thanksgiving week.

Temperatures today should rebound to the mid and upper 50’s following yesterday’s much colder-than-normal day for mid-November with temperatures stuck in the 30’s. It should stay relatively mild through Sunday, but more frontal passages will bring us down again in temperatures during the early part of next week.

Temperatures today will struggle to reach 40 degrees for highs and then could bottom out late tonight in the upper 20’s. A warming trend will begin on Friday and both weekend days could feature highs not far from the 60 degree mark.

Low pressure pulls away from the Mid-Atlantic coastline this morning and high pressure will build into our region with unseasonably cold air for this time of year (normal high is 66 degrees). Yet another wave of low pressure will pull out of the Gulf states at mid-week and spread more cold rain into the Tennessee Valley as it moves northeastward towards the Mid-Atlantic coastline. With cold air already in place, it is not out of the question that there be a brief period of frozen precipitation at the onset; however, the bulk of this event should be in the form of rain. Another cold blast of air will drop southeastward across the Great Lakes at the end of the week and chill down the eastern US for the weekend.

An unseasonably cold weather pattern continues for much of the eastern half of the nation and this includes the Tennessee Valley. One cold blast of air pushed into the eastern states over the weekend and another is on the way. Low pressure will push northeast today from the Gulf of Mexico and once this system passes by to our northeast, the flood gates will open once again for an Arctic blast of air to drop southeastward from the Northern Plains. The chilly weather will stick around for much of the week, but there are signs for a Thanksgiving week warm up across much of the nation. A second storm near the east coast will have to be monitored for the second half of the week.
