Following yesterday’s passage of a frontal system, drier air has pushed into the region and is setting us up for a pretty nice week. The next few days should feature plenty of daily sunshine in the Tennessee Valley and temperatures will be quite nice for this time of year.

Drier air will slowly filter into the region today as a disturbance passes by to our northeast, but showers cannot be ruled out as we begin the new work week. It turns cooler tonight and Tuesday should feature increasing amounts of sunshine and highs near the 70 degree mark.

The weather will become more stable today following the passage of a cool front with some sunshine and cooler conditions. Temperatures late tonight will drop to chilly levels in the middle 40’s, but some quick modification in this cool air mass will bring us comfortable high temperatures on Thursday and Friday. The threat of showers will likely return later this weekend as upstream disturbances head in this direction.

The weather will become unstable today ahead of an approaching upper-level trough with strengthening low-level winds and an increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms. There is even the chance that some of the thunderstorms that form later today can reach severe levels with damaging wind gusts a possible threat. A cold front crosses the area late tonight and tomorrow will turn cooler and temperatures late tomorrow night should bottom out in the middle 40’s.

The weather will begin on the warm side early this week following the re-positioning of high pressure this past weekend off of the eastern seaboard. As a result, a southwesterly flow of air formed and pumped milder air into the Tennessee Valley from the Gulf of Mexico region. Strong low pressure will develop across the south-central states over the next 24 hours or so and it can bring showers here later tomorrow/tomorrow night as it begins a move towards the Great Lakes.

The chilly air mass of the past few days will modify and retreat to the north today as a light south-to-southwesterly flow of air develops in the region on the backside of departing high pressure. As a result, it’ll turn noticeably milder today with afternoon high temperatures back up in the 70’s and the mild conditions will last through the weekend as well.

It’ll stay cool for another day and night in northern Alabama, but milder air will return on Friday as southwesterly low-level flow forms on the backside of departing high pressure. Temperatures will return to the 70’s on Friday and remain mild through the upcoming weekend.

A chilly air mass remains in place for another day or so with afternoon temperatures likely confined to the 50’s which is below normal for this time of year. Temperatures late tonight are likely to drop to near the freezing mark once again with patchy frost quite likely to be widespread. A warming trend gets underway on Thursday and really kicks into gear by the time we get to the upcoming weekend.
