7:00 AM | Unusual shot at some late night and Friday morning showers and thunderstorms in and around the LA metro region; cooling trend later this weekend into next week; Could Fabio be in our future?

Paul Dorian

Tonight

Friday

Friday Night

Partly cloudy, cool, fog late, mid 60’s

Saturday

Becoming mostly sunny after early morning fog, pleasant, near 70

Sunday

Fog possible early then mostly sunny skies, upper 60's

Monday

Fog possible early then mostly sunny skies, mid-to-upper 60’s

Tuesday

Fog possible early then mostly sunny skies, mid-to-upper 60’s

Discussion

The combination of an upper level disturbance and some monsoonal moisture will actually bring about an unusual chance for a late night or Friday morning shower or thunderstorm in and around Los Angeles County, and it's possible that some storms that develop contain some heavy rainfall. A low pressure system will then close in on the coast by later in the weekend which will bring about a slight cooling trend to the area along with a renewed onshore marine-layer flow of air. Highs by Monday could very well hold in the mid-to-upper 60’s compared to the near 70 degrees that we’ll experience this afternoon. Looking ahead, there is the chance that some more moisture could head into the southern California region early next week from a tropical system near Baja that could become named Fabio as it turns to the northwest from its current location.

7:00 AM | Hot again today with a storm threat; shower/storm threat this weekend

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Partly sunny, hot, chance for a few showers and thunderstorms, low 90’s for afternoon highs

Tonight

Partly cloudy, mild, chance for a shower or thunderstorm, low 60’s for lows

Friday

Mostly sunny, hot, slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm, near 90

Friday Night

Partly cloudy, mild, slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm, low 60’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, very warm, chance for showers and thunderstorms, upper 80’s

Sunday

Partly sunny, very warm, chance for showers and thunderstorms, upper 80’s

Monday

Partly sunny, very warm, chance for showers and thunderstorms, upper 80’s

Tuesday

Partly sunny, very warm, chance for showers and thunderstorms, upper 80’s

Discussion

It’ll remain pretty hot today with high temperatures likely reaching the 90’s once again across the metro region. High pressure situated to our west will combine with a weak frontal boundary to our north to generate some scattered shower and thunderstorm activity from the plains eastward on this Thursday. By the weekend, the upper level high pressure system now to our west will head east and this will allow for even more moisture to move in from the southwest giving us a daily chance for showers and storms into early next week. In fact, it could turn out that there is widespread shower and thunderstorm activity at times across the region during the weekend and into early next week.

7:00 AM | Hot in interior sections, near 70 in the LA metro region

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Early morning low clouds and fog then gradually becoming partly sunny, breezy, highs near 70 degrees

Tonight

Partly cloudy, breezy, fog possible late, lows in the lower 60’s

Thursday

Becoming mostly sunny after some early morning fog, breezy, low 70’s

Thursday Night

Partly cloudy, cool, fog late, mid 60’s

Friday

Becoming mostly sunny after early morning fog, pleasant, low 70’s

Saturday

Fog possible early then mostly sunny skies, near 70

Sunday

Fog possible early then mostly sunny skies, near 70

Monday

Fog possible early then mostly sunny skies, near 70

Discussion

Quite warm weather is expected for the next couple of days along the coast with hot conditions in the interior sections of southwest California where triple digit temperatures can be expected. The main player for the next couple of days will be strong upper level high pressure situated over the Great Basin. That high will weaken as we approach the weekend and a low pressure system will close in on the coast which could bring about a slight cooling trend along with a renewed onshore marine-layer flow of air.

7:00 AM | Hot weather returns with highs back up in the 90's

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly sunny, much warmer, low 90’s for afternoon highs

Tonight

Partly cloudy, cool, low 60’s for low

Thursday

Mostly sunny, hot, chance for a shower or thunderstorm, low 90’s

Thursday Night

Partly cloudy, mild, low 60’s

Friday

Mostly sunny, still pretty hot, low 90’s

Discussion

A northwest flow of air in the upper atmosphere will continue over the Rockies for today and this will, at least temporarily, prevent subtropical moisture from reaching this far north. As a result, our threat for showers will be quite low today and our temperatures will once again climb to rather hot levels in the 90's. Moisture may return again over the Rockies by the time the weekend rolls around and this will enhance the chances for scattered shower and thunderstorms.

Discussion

As high pressure builds in to our west over the next couple of days a NW flow of air will develop over the Rockies and this will, at least temporarily, prevent subtropical moisture from reaching this far north. As a result, our threat for showers will diminish and our temperatures will once again climb to rather hot levels on Wednesday and Thursday (low 90’s). Moisture may return again over the Rockies by the time the weekend rolls around and this will enhance the chances for more scattered shower and thunderstorms. The average high temperature at Denver for this time of year is around 89 degrees.

7:00 AM | Slight warming trend for the early week

Paul Dorian

Today

Early morning patchy fog; otherwise, mostly cloudy skies give way to some afternoon sunshine, breezy, highs near 70 degrees

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, breezy, fog possible late, lows in the lower 60’s

Tuesday

Becoming mainly sunny after morning fog, breezy, low-to-mid 70’s

Friday

Fog possible early then mostly sunny skies, low 70’s

Saturday

Fog possible early then mostly sunny skies, low 70’s

Discussion

High pressure expands from the east and will control the weather through much of the week with a slight warming trend along the coast and much warmer conditions expected in interior sections. Elsewhere, an update on the sun shows that as one big sunspot (AR1515) turns away from the Earth, another one is now turning toward our planet. AR1520, now emerging on the sun's southeastern limb, stretches more than 10 Earth diameters (127,000 km) from end-to-end and will be monitored over the next several days.

7:00 AM | Highs should actually hold in the 70's once again today and there is a threat for more rain

Paul Dorian

6-Day Forecast

Today

Mostly cloudy, cool, showers and thunderstorms possible, upper 70’s

Tonight

Chance for showers and thunderstorms; otherwise, mostly cloudy skies, breezy, cool, upper 50’s

Tuesday

Mostly sunny, comfortable, low 80’s

Tuesday Night

Partly sunny, hot, low 90’s

Friday

Mostly sunny, hot, chance for a shower or thunderstorm, low-to-mid 90’s

Saturday

Partly sunny, not as hot, chance for a shower or thunderstorm, upper 80’s

Discussion

The pattern change has left us with below normal temperatures to start the new week and with the threat for more showers and thunderstorms. Later in the week, upper level high pressure will re-intensify and this will cause a warming trend to develop and highs by Thursday and Friday could very well reach the 90’s once again.

Monday

Tuesday

Partly sunny, comfortable, chance for a shower or thunderstorm, near 80

Wednesday

Partly sunny, pleasant, mid 80’s

Discussion

A major pattern change continues for Colorado to that of cooler and wetter conditions. More moisture has entered the picture now as the summer monsoonal pattern begins to assert itself in the Desert Southwest and all of this is part of a pattern change from hot and dry to wetter and cooler. High temperatures will reach the 80’s again today, but should actually be confined to the 70’s this weekend rolls around thanks to more cloudiness associated with the increased moisture levels throughout the atmosphere.
