WMA Tuesday Forecast - Very hot and humid midweek
Paul Dorian
Two main features on this morning’s weather map: a large high pressure system now south of us and a large-scale thunderstorm complex across NW PA. This high pressure system will move off the east coast by tomorrow and will set up as a “Bermuda high” pumping hot air into the Mid-Atlantic region for the next couple of days. Temperatures will soar well into the 90’s from DC to NYC tomorrow and Thursday, but then a cool front will slip through on Friday starting a downward trend in temperatures for the weekend. Meanwhile, the large-scale thunderstorm complex that is across NW PA this morning will track southeastward and should slowly weaken as the day progresses. Nonetheless, lots of high clouds will fill the sky and scattered afternoon and early evening showers and thunderstorms cannot be ruled out; especially, to the north and west of DC. Once the cool front slips to our south early this weekend it will stall out and this should lead to some unsettled weather with showers and thunderstorms possible in the Mid-Atlantic both Saturday and Sunday. Today- lots of high clouds and warm with an afternoon shower or thunderstorm possible; especially, in the northern and western suburbs, upper 80’s (normal high is now 82 degrees)
Tonight- partly cloudy, warm, an isolated shower or thunderstorm, near 70
Wed- mostly sunny, very hot and humid, upper 90’s
Thurs- partly sunny, very hot and humid, chance for an afternoon or evening shower or thunderstorm, upper 90’s
Fri- partly sunny, not quite as hot, chance for a shower or thunderstorm, near 90
Sat- variable clouds, a few showers or thunderstorms possible, near 85
Sun- mostly cloudy, a few showers and thunderstorms possible, low 80’s
