Discussion

Our prolonged significant rain event will finally end tonight, but not before another day with scattered shower and thunderstorm activity. Heavy rainfall amounts are not expected today, however, as any new rain should accumulate a quarter of an inch or less. Sunday turned out to be the 5th wettest day in Philly Airport recorded history with nearly 5 inches of rainfall, and, of course, much more fell in Southern Jersey with nearly a foot of rain reported in Cumberland County. The low pressure system causing this rainfall currently spins off the New England coast, but upper air support continues to exist with this system back into the interior part of the Northeast. High pressure finally takes control of our weather on Wednesday, but that reprieve will be short-lived as more unsettled weather is threatening for the latter part of the week. A shower or thunderstorm is possible again by Thursday and even more likely for Friday. The weekend will feature some improvement although a shower or thunderstorm cannot be ruled out on Saturday.
