12:35 PM | August 2011 Recap

Paul Dorian

Discussion

August 2011 will forever be remembered around here as the wettest month ever with 19.31 inches of rainfall recorded at Philadelphia International Airport which is almost 16 inches above normal for August. This record-breaking rainfall total surpassed the previous monthly record of September 1999 (thank you Floyd) by more than 6 inches. As far as temperatures are concerned, August became the first month with below-normal temperatures (-0.5 degrees) since January 2011. The highest temperature for the month was 96 degrees and it was recorded on the very first day of the month. There has not been a high temperature of 90 degrees or higher in Philly since August 8th.
