August 2011 was considerably wetter-than-normal at Reagan National Airport with a total of 8.92 inches – nearly 6 inches above the norm for the month. These high totals, however, pale in comparison to locations to our northeast as Philly Airport recorded 19.31 inches and New York City (Central Park) measured 18.95 inches. Temperatures averaged above-normal (+1.8 degrees) here in August thanks mainly to a hot start to the month. In fact, the hottest day of the month occurred on the very first day as highs reached 100 degrees on 8/1. This warmer-than-normal month of August follows the hottest July ever.
