Labor Day weekend will start off with very warm and conditions on Saturday and Sunday and a shower or thunderstorm is possible at anytime on Saturday and again late Sunday or Sunday night. By Monday, Labor Day, a slow-moving cold front is likely to bring us slightly cooler conditions with more numerous showers and thunderstorms and some of this rain can be heavy. Following the frontal passage, much cooler will move in for Tuesday. Meanwhile, the tropics remain active and could play a role in our weather by the middle or latter part of next week. A tropical system is developing over the Gulf of Mexico and this will likely become a tropical storm named Lee during the weekend. It will dump heavy rain on the Gulf coastal regions, perhaps up to a foot and a half, and could throw some moisture our way by the middle of next week. Elsewhere, Tropical Storm Katia still churns in the Atlantic, should beceom a major hurricane early next week, and is still a threat to the east coast by the end of next week. Both of these tropical systems will have to be monitored closely over the next several days.
