Discussion

The stubborn low pressure system that excruciatingly affected the Mid-Atlantic region for the past several days has finally been kicked out to sea and an extended period of nice weather has arrived. Sprawling high pressure will dominate the weather picture in much of the eastern half of the country for the next several days as it becomes nearly stationary and that means lots of sunshine for us with pleasant temperatures. This prolonged dry period will allow for substantial drying of our still saturated grounds following the two very wet months of August and September in which more than 28 inches of rainfall was recorded at Central Park. Elsewhere, early season cold and snow has developed out west with the Sierra Nevadas receiving accumulating snow as will parts of Utah and Colorado over the next few days. In the longer term, we’ll have to watch for the possibility of tropical storm development over the Gulf of Mexico which could eventually throw some moisture up the east coast late next week.
