Discussion

Nearly stationary Mid-Atlantic high pressure will control our weather through next Tuesday providing us with plenty of sunshine each day along with pleasant daytime temperatures and chilly nights. While this dry weather continues here in the East for the next several days, the seeds may be sown for moisture to return to this region later next week. Specifically, this same high pressure system will simultaneously generate a prolonged period of easterly winds from the Atlantic Ocean towards the Florida Peninsula over the next several days and this moisture-laden air will enhance the chances for tropical storm development by early next week. Ultimately, a tropical storm may form near Florida or over the eastern Gulf of Mexico region and this could then move northwards up the east coast and threaten us with some rain here in the Mid-Atlantic towards the middle or latter part of next week. Elsewhere, unusual early season cold and snow continues out west and this will bring the first accumulations to many of the western mountains over the next few days including across parts of California, Nevada, Utah and Colorado.
