Discussion
A major coastal storm will spread a cold rain our way early Saturday and then the rain is likely to mix with and then change over to a heavy, wet snow with the snow continuing right into Saturday night. Accumulations are likely with the greatest chance of significant accumulations to the north and west of NYC and also in higher elevation localities where several inches can pile up. The weight of the heavy wet snow is liable to bring down some tree limbs possibly causing scattered power outages. This unusual late October winter storm does not mean that we’ll stay cold from here on out; in fact, we’ll head towards the upper 50’s for highs by the middle of next week. Expected snowfall accumulations: 1-3 inches in NYC; 3-6 inches in the N/W suburbs. An interesting tidbit: Central Park has never recorded an inch or more of snow in October since records started being kept in 1869.
