First off, 2011 is now the wettest year on record, at least in the modern era, as we have now surpassed the previous record set in 1996. As of early today, Philly Airport has officially recorded 56.88" for the year, and more is likely during the day. A second wave of low pressure will ride along a cold frontal system this morning extending our period of unsettled weather and it’ll be noticeably colder than recent days. In fact, temperatures will slowly drop through the 40's during the day and the occasional light rain that falls could actually mix with snow before it ends later this afternoon. Mainly clear skies tonight will allow for temperatures to drop to the 20’s in many spots and the cold weather will continue on Friday with temperatures no better than the mid 40’s for highs. High pressure, however, will then slip off the east coast on Saturday and this will allow for a warming trend to begin as winds will shift around to a southwesterly direction. In fact, temperatures by Sunday afternoon will once again approach the 60 degree mark.
