Discussion

A strong low pressure system will move rapidly from the VA/NC border region early this evening to just off of Cape Cod by late tonight. This low will dump quite a bit of precipitation on the region with more than two inches of liquid equivalent possible over the next 24 hours. Colder air will move in after midnight and this will likely change the rain to snow between about 1 and 4am. The snow will likely last for a few hours and accumulations of 1-3 inches are possible in the northern and western suburbs (Chester, Bucks, Montgomery Counties) with an inch or less likely in the city. Once the snow ends early tomorrow morning the sun will return, but it’ll be breezy and chilly. Dry weather is then likely for the next several days. Finally, last night’s rains put the official Philadelphia year-to-date measurement for rainfall over 60 inches with significantly more to be added on today and tonight.
