Winds will increase to 20-30 mph today behind a strong cold frontal passage and then an Arctic front will pass through tonight and that will open the flood gates for the first invasion of Arctic air into the Mid-Atlantic this season. Tuesday promises to be a brutal day throughout the Mid-Atlantic region with temperatures likely not even able to reach 30 degrees and wind chills will be considerably lower. This will be quite a stark contrast from the mild conditions of this past weekend which saw the low-to-mid 60’s throughout the region on Saturday. Wednesday will also be very cold, but the Arctic air will retreat by the time we reach Friday and Saturday. Longer range, there is the potential for a storm to deal with early to middle part of next week somewhere along the east coast. Additionally, other Arctic blasts are destined to reach our area during the second and third weeks of January.
