Discussion

Milder air moved into our region overnight and there will be occasional rain today as temperatures climb back into the 50’s. Total rainfall amounts from this event should end up in the 0.25-0.50 inch range. The milder weather will be rather short-lived; however, as a strong cold front will pass through tonight and the second half of the week will be rather cold. The next system to affect us will be a fast-moving, weak system dropping southeastward from Canada. It could produce snow showers here early Thursday night. After that, we’ll be watching a southern system that should head towards the Mid-Atlantic coast early this weekend, possibly generating some rain or snow here late Friday night or Saturday. It’ll turn milder again after that system clears the coast for the first couple days of next week. Elsewhere, the Pacific Northwest will get pounded over the next few days by powerful Pacific Ocean storms combined with Arctic air. Seattle could have one of its worst snowstorms ever later tonight into Wednesday and the snow may have to be measured with multiple yard sticks in some of the higher Cascades of Washington and Oregon by later this week.
