Discussion

Yesterday was a record-breaker at JFK Airport with a spring-like high temperature of 63 degrees. However, a cold front slipped through the region late yesterday and our flirtation with spring weather will be diminished for the foreseeable future. The front has stalled to our south and this will allow for a wave of low pressure to ride along it towards the east coast. The precipitation associated with this low, however, should stay to our south, but there will be some morning clouds associated with it. High pressure builds back into the region to close out the week and begin the weekend. The storm that will produce heavy snow today over the Colorado Rockies will then head into the Plains tomorrow and cause heavy snow there, but then will likely slow down in its advance to the eastern states as it encounters a blocking pattern in the upper atmosphere. This developing blocking pattern in the upper atmosphere could ultimately "squeeze" this storm far enough to our south that we stay dry. Stay tuned. Finally, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow early this morning (as did I), but six more weeks of this wouldn't be all that bad.
