Discussion

Our mid-week mixed bag event is now over with an inch or so recorded in some of the northern and western suburbs and a trace recorded at Reagan National Airport. The next system of interest will be a strong Arctic cold front that will whip through the Mid-Atlantic region by early Saturday paving the way for a much colder air mass that will stick around through Monday. Snow showers and even a period of steadier snow will likely accompany the invasion of the Arctic air mass on Saturday with accumulations likely. The coldest part of this outbreak will likely occur on Sunday as temperatures may hold below 35 degrees throughout the day. The bitter cold will relax by Tuesday as temperatures likely climb back into the 40's. The coldest core of this Arctic air mass will heads towards New England by late in the weekend and temperatures there can fall to twenty below zero in spots by Monday morning.
