Discussion
The combination of a strong high pressure system to our north and a double-barrel low pressure system will bring precipitation into the region on Wednesday after a dry, cooler Tuesday. Rain should arrive during the mid-morning hours on Wednesday and it should be mixed with sleet at the onset and possibly even some snow. The precipitation should then change to all rain during the mid-day hours and continue as rain during the afternoon hours some of which will fall heavily at times. Slippery spots will likely be confined to the Lehigh Valley and points north and east of there on Wednesday. The Poconos are likely to receive 2 or 3 inches of snow before a changeover to ice later tomorrow. While the rain will can come down hard at times here tomorrow afternoon, it should lighten up to just a few showers for tomorrow night and Thursday. The next system to affect us will be a strong cold front on Saturday that will bring more rain here and possibly a strong thunderstorm as well. Elsewhere, a major snowstorm is set to hit the Dakotas, Minnesota and western Wisconsin tonight and tomorrow with more than a foot of snow in spots. Also, upstate New York and interior New England will get significant snow and ice on Wednesday and Thursday.
