Discussion

Widespread warmth with well-above normal temperatures will continue today over much of the country east of the Rockies. This weather pattern is more typical of May than mid-March with a strong subtropical high pressure system over the western Atlantic that is continuously pumping mild air into the Mid-Atlantic from our southwest. Despite the fact that a weak cold front came through the region late yesterday, temperatures today should once again climb well into the 70’s along with plenty of sunshine. Dry weather should continue on Thursday as well, but then there will be a threat for showers on Friday; however, it doesn’t look like a significant rain event. Looking past the weekend, it looks like very warm weather will return in the Monday to Wednesday time frame with perhaps even higher temperatures than what we have enjoyed this week. Elsewhere, as warm and pleasant as it is around here, the west coast is cold and miserable with heavy rain along the coast from the Pacific Northwest to central California and heavy snows in the inland mountainous regions. The heavy rain will slide down the west coast over the next couple of days with significant rain arriving in southern California by week’s end.
