A powerful storm will hit the Mid-Atlantic on Sunday and Monday with drought-busting type heavy rain, increasingly strong winds and possibly damaging wet snows in the higher elevation, interior sections. Before the storm hits later this weekend, a cold front will pass through the region on Saturday and there will be showers and thunderstorms associated with the frontal passage; especially, during the afternoon and evening hours. By Sunday morning, a storm will be gathering strength near the Southeast US coast and this storm will then take a turn up the east coast. By Monday morning, this storm is likely to be right at the Mid-Atlantic coastline and then will take a turn inland prolonging the precipitation into early next week. Much cooler air will get pulled into the Mid-Atlantic behind the storm early next week and it'll stay chilly here for a few days. The total rainfall amounts in this region between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning could end up in the 2-4 inch range.
