Discussion
A low pressure system will head from the Ohio Valley towards the Great Lakes over the next 12 to 24 hours and this action will sweep a cold front from west-to-east towards the east coast. This particular system has some strong upper level energy to support it as it heads toward the coast; consequently, the threat exists late today and tonight for strong-to-severe thunderstorm activity with heavy rainfall in much of the Mid-Atlantic region. The front sweeps off the east coast early tomorrow and this will pave the way for a decent weekend although an isolated shower cannot be ruled out for Sunday afternoon. Looking ahead, there is no hot weather in sight for the next several days around here as much of the eastern half of the nation will get off to a coolish start to the month of June.
