7:55 PM | Intense line of thunderstorms racing towards the DC region

An intense squall line is racing to the southeast from West Virginia at this hour and these dangerous storms will likely affect the DC metro region between 10PM and 1AM. These storms created quite a punch as they whipped through western Ohio earlier this evening with wind gusts reported of up to 70 mph. While the line of storms may weaken somewhat, there can be some very heavy rainfall, strong wind gusts and vivid lightning later tonight as this line plows through the region with power outages a strong possibility. All of this activity is being fueled by the excessive heat and humidity of the day as temperatures reached 104 degrees this afternoon at Reagan National Airport which was the highest temperature ever recorded for the month of June.
