Discussion

The heat wave is over and we’ll enjoy much more comfortable conditions this week, but we cannot rule out a shower or thunderstorm from time-to-time. A cold front dropped through the region on Sunday and it has set up shop just to our south. As a result, waves of low pressure may ride along the front into midweek and this could produce another shower or thunderstorm around here on occasion; however, most of this activity will stay just to our south (e.g., DC to South Jersey). Elsewhere, an update on the sun shows that as one big sunspot (AR1515) turns away from the Earth, another one is now turning toward our planet. AR1520, now emerging on the sun's southeastern limb, stretches more than 10 Earth diameters (127,000 km) from end-to-end and will be monitored over the next several days.
