4:30 PM | Western suburbs of NYC can get hit with showers/storms during the next few hours; severe weather threat late Sunday

Paul Dorian

Discussion

Scattered heavy showers and strong thunderstorms are popping once again today this time across central New Jersey and these will affect some areas just to the west of the NYC metro region over the next few hours (e.g. Plainfield, NJ). Any storm can produce heavy rainfall as they are slow-movers and loaded with moisture. It looks like an even more organized threat will occur from late Sunday through Sunday night with the potential for severe weather. At that time, a strong cool front will combine with energetic upper-level support to generate numerous heavy showers and strong storms in the Mid-Atlantic region. We’ll continue to monitor this situation as the weekend progresses.
