8:45 PM | Heavy showers and strong thunderstorms closing in on DC and Baltimore

Paul Dorian

Discussion

A batch of heavy showers and strong thunderstorms is closing in on the DC metro region from the west and will produce heavy rain, thunder, and lightning during the next couple of hours. In addtion, some of the thunderstorms embedded within this batch of rain can generate hail and damaging winds gusts of up to 60 mph and since the storms are moving quite slowly flash flooding is a threat. All of this activity is associated with a wave of low pressure that is riding along a stalled out frontal boundary zone here in the Mid-Atlantic region. This rain and embedded thunderstorm activity will extend northward into the Baltimore metro region over the next couple of hours and this will affect the Baltimore Ravens football game which began a short time ago.
