The Home Run Weather app index for yesterday's playoff games really tells the story as to where the cold air currently sits across the nation. A very low "home run favorability" index value of 1 in Baltimore, where no home runs were hit, suggests the cold air continues to reside in the Northeast US and an index value of 8 in St. Louis, where 6 home runs were hit, indicate that there are milder conditions in the Midwest. In fact, the pattern this morning in the Northeast US is quite "winter-like" with a coastal low pressure system and a chilly high pressure to the north. Ah, if this were only January we would be talking about possible snow around here. Indeed the milder air situated over the Midwest will head to the Northeast US on Wednesday ahead of the next cold front, but then we'll cool down again by Thursday and struggle again to reach 60 degrees for afternoon highs. Another weak front will pass through on the dry side late Friday and this will pave the way for continued cool weather on Saturday, but then a warm front will approach on Sunday and temperatures will rebound to well up in the 60’s once again.
