Mixed precipitation will change to mainly snow this evening in the Philly metro region and the snow will fall at varying intensities over the next several hours with a burst of heavier snow possible as bands of precipitation may form. No accumulations are likely until after sunset at which time temperatures may drop a couple of degrees to near the freezing mark. Accumulations by later tonight are likely to range from about 1-3 inches across the Philly with the lesser amounts in the western suburbs (eg northern Montgomery County, Chester County) and the higher amounts towards the east (eg Bucks County). The worst of this offshore storm will affect locations closer to the coast and, as a result, the highest snowfall accumulations will likely be in interior South Jersey where 3-6 inches could pile up. Some slippery spots are possible later tonight throughout the region as temperatures drop to near the freezing mark. Much improvement is in store by the weekend with the return of sunshine and temperatures approaching the 60 degree mark.
