Discussion
Our decent weather pattern will continue right through Friday with some sunshine each day and high temperatures generally in the 50’s. However, the weekend will turn out much colder as a strong cold front will whip through the region by early Saturday and this will usher in Arctic air for Saturday and Sunday. In fact, this cold air outbreak is likely to cause the first widespread, albeit short-lived, “lake-effect” snow event from late Friday night into Sunday for those locations downstream of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Penn State's last football game of the season late Saturday in State College is likely to feature temperatures in the low 30’s with winds of 20 mph or better and occasional snow showers. The chill modifies slightly early next week, but another widespread cold air outbreak is destined for the region from the Central Plains to the Mid-Atlantic by the middle of next week.
