A major and potentially historic winter storm will impact the region tonight into Saturday. All-out blizzard conditions will occur tonight with heavy snow, strong winds gusting to 45+ mph, scattered power outages, and blowing and drifting which will become a serious issue in the overnight hours. There is also the chance for “thundersnow” activity as this is a very dynamic system that will undergo rapid deepening over the next several hours. Accumulations by morning should be on the order 12-20 inches with highest amounts over Long Island. The powerful storm slowly winds down early tomorrow and the cleanup will begin. Needless to say, driving conditions will be dangerous throughout the night and throughout the NYC metro region. Stay safe.
