Discussion

The major coastal storm that we have been talking about for days now is beginning to take shape this morning along the coastal sections of North Carolina. It will intensify rapidly as it moves northeast to a position off the New England coast by early tomorrow. Temperatures will climb above freezing for awhile today with rain, but the rain will change to snow by early tonight after a period of mixed sleet, rain and snow. Snow will continue for much of the night and winds will become a factor reaching 40+ mph causing some blowing and drifting. Accumulations expected on the order of 4-8 inches with lower amounts to the south and west (e.g. southern Chester County) and higher amounts to the north and east (e.g. Bucks County). Road conditions tonight will become treacherous as temperatures will drop in a hurry as the snow takes over. An all-out blizzard will occur tonight into early Saturday from northern New Jersey across NYC to New England with all the works up there (heavy snows, extreme winds, thundersnows, blowing, drifting, etc).
