3:15 PM | Spring-like middle 50's right now, but light snow is still likely by morning

Paul Dorian

Discussion

Temperatures today have climbed into the spring-like middle 50’s ahead of a strong cold front that will slide through the area early tonight. As this new cold air mass plunges to the south and east from the Northern Plains over the next 12 to 24 hours, a couple of different low pressure systems will develop in the eastern states. The first system will affect our region later tonight into early Saturday with some rain at first and then that should change to snow. As with many of our recent systems, the potential accumulation from this first low pressure area will be on the light side (coating to an inch) by tomorrow morning. After a brief lull, a second storm will form in the East and it looks like it could brush our region with some snow later tomorrow into early tomorrow night with another light accumulation on the table. Even more substantial snow is possible from the second system across eastern New England where they were buried with snow last weekend. Following these two systems, Sunday will be quite cold around here with highs struggling to reach 30 degrees along with a few snow showers, and this cold shot could cause a freeze as far south as northern Florida.
