Discussion

Low pressure off the Mid-Atlantic coast this morning will only slowly pull away today and snow showers will linger for much of the morning hours; especially, across New Jersey where they could continue right into the early afternoon. Most areas around here will receive a coating or so of snow accumulation on grassy and untreated road surfaces, but an inch or two is possible in locations where the snow showers linger into the afternoon (e.g. New Jersey). The air mass left behind this coastal system is very chilly for this time of the year and high temperatures later today will only reach the upper 30's - some 15 degrees below normal for March 21st. Colder-than-normal weather will continue right into the weekend; however, there will be some modification in temperatures for Saturday and Sunday. At the same time, a significant storm will be crossing the country causing heavy snow in the southern Rockies and then the central Plains. This storm will head towards the Ohio Valley by Sunday and from there it’ll begin to transfer its energy to a developing Mid-Atlantic coastal storm which could generate some rain and/or snow around here in the Sunday night/Monday time frame and snow accumulations are possible.
