Discussion

A broad area of low pressure over the southeastern states is drifting very slowly to the northeast and it will continue to bring us cool and unsettled conditions today with numerous heavy downpours that can produce flash flooding. Slightly milder air will edge our way for tomorrow and there will continue to be scattered showers and thunderstorms although much of Thursday will be rain-free. Temperatures will then climb to the middle or upper 70's on Friday and the brief “taste of summer” could include a few afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Cooler weather returns by late in the weekend and early next week following the passage of a strong cold frontal system and there will be continued unsettled weather conditions ahead of that front on Saturday and Sunday. A very chilly air mass for this time of year will move into the Midwest, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions early next week and the low temperatures on Monday and Tuesday mornings could be cold enough to do some damage to outdoor plants.
