Discussion
The cool front that passed through the region on Sunday has turned around and returned as a warm front and its passage from south-to-north will usher in a noticeable change to very warm and humid conditions from this afternoon right into Thursday. Temperatures this afternoon will jump well up into the 80's and could slightly surpass the 90 degree mark tomorrow afternoon to go along with uncomfortable humidity levels. There is the chance for a shower or thunderstorm later today and again late tomorrow, but the best chance for a couple of showers and possible strong thunderstorms will come on Thursday with the next strong cool frontal system. Following the passage of the next cool front, the coolest air so far this season will push into the Mid-Atlantic region for Friday and Saturday. In fact, highs on Saturday will likely not reach 70 degrees in the Philly metro region (current normal high in Philly is 81 degrees) and for those attending the Penn State-UCF football game Saturday evening (6PM) in University Park, temperatures could drop into the 40’s during the second half of the game.
Elsewhere, the tropics are now quite active with two tropical storms, Gabrielle and Humberto. Humberto very well could become the first hurricane of the season later today or tonight as it spins in the far eastern Atlantic. A third area of interest is in the western Caribbean and that could become a named tropical system within a couple of days.
