Discussion

Our significant warmup will peak on Sunday afternoon with high temperatures on that day way up in the 60's which could be a record-breaker. While it will look threatening at times, there should be nothing more than a couple of showers between tonight and Sunday morning although patchy fog can form at times in some locations. An approaching cold front will increase our chances for showers later Sunday and Sunday night and that threat for showers will continue into Monday as the frontal system gets hung up along the east coast and a wave of low pressure rides along the boundary zone. There is an outside chance that the lingering rain showers end as light snow as colder air filters into the region. By Tuesday (Christmas Eve), cold air will become firmly entrenched in the region and high temperatures will be confined to the 30's and that should be the case on Christmas Day as well. An upper level disturbance could cause some snow shower activity in the area on Tuesday. Looking ahead, the pattern looks quite cold as we close out the month of December and begin the new year.
