Discussion

Extreme cold has gripped the region following yesterday's snowstorm with temperatures right around zero which is comparable to the early month's "polar vortex" cold air outbreak. Temperatures today will struggle to reach double digits and wind chills at times will be twenty degrees below zero as winds will be quite gusty. The bitter cold weather pattern will continue for the next couple of weeks as there will be multiple Arctic air outbreaks as well as multiple snow threats in what will turn out to be quite an amazing stretch of winter weather. A reinforcing Arctic air outbreak will occur Thursday night and then another one by early next week and that air mass will have its origins in Siberia. In addition to the cold, snow shower activity threatens the region on Thursday and then again on Saturday and a storm could have an impact here early next week.

As far as snow totals are concerned, there was an overall average of about 8-12 inches in the area with the range running from about 6 to 14 inches. Here are some specific reports: King of Prussia 10.1", Jenkintown 11.0", Wynnewood 12.0", Philly Intl Airport 13.5", Brookhaven 14.8", Springfield 8.3", Exton 8.0", West Chester 8.0", Coatesville 6.0", Yardley 11.5", Warminster 7.3".
