Discussion

Our active weather pattern continues today with another fast-moving upper-level disturbance possibly generating snow showers this morning that can include heavier snow bursts with accumulations on the order of a coating to an inch or so. This latest system departs this afternoon with clearing skies and it'll become very cold tonight with lows in the middle teens in some spots. Winds will increase on Thursday as the next strong cold front approaches with possible snow showers and then bitter cold temperatures are likely Thursday night and Friday with lows not far from 10 degrees in many of the suburbs and highs on Friday around 20 degrees below normal for this time of year.

Looking ahead, two storms will slam into California over the next few days and they will both subsequently cross the country in a west-to-east fashion. The first of these systems could throw some clouds our way early in the weekend with light snow possible and then the second system is likely to bring more significant precipitation into the Mid-Atlantic region later this weekend and early next week. It is too early to tell the exact details of this particular storm that'll come to the region in the Sunday night-Tuesday time frame as while odds favor snow, a wintry mix cannot be ruled out.
