Discussion
A cold frontal system will generate occasional showers in the local area as we close out the work week and then a major storm will develop this weekend in the Mid-Atlantic region and it will produce significant rainfall from later Saturday through much of Sunday. By the time the end of the weekend rolls around, some Mid-Atlantic locations could see up to three inches of rainfall with localized flooding a real possibility. Furthermore, colder air will wrap into the lingering storm system later on Sunday with increasing northerly winds and it is possible that the rain mixes with snow or that there is even a complete changeover to snow as the storm slowly winds down.
The cold frontal system will set the stage for the weekend event as it will stall early Saturday over the Delmarva Peninsula. Low pressure will develop in the Ohio Valley early in the day and it will ride right along the stalled out frontal boundary zone bringing substantial moisture to the local area for much of the weekend. This low pressure area will intensify dramatically as the weekend progresses aided by a deepening upper-level trough. Genuine clearing does not look like it will take place until Monday and Tuesday which promise to be a nice days with the return of sunshine and mild conditions.
