Discussion
A warm front will lift through the region today pushed to the northeast by a low pressure system over the Great Lakes. This same low pressure area will swing a cool front through the region on Thursday. The result of this frontal activity will be an extended unstable period containing showers and thunderstorms. Some of the rain will be heavy at times late today and tonight and some of the thunderstorms that form will be on the strong side with downpours and gusty winds. The unstable conditions will continue on Thursday and Friday with a shower or thunderstorm possible each day as we head into the weekend although they won't be as numerous as they will be later today and tonight. By the weekend, calmer conditions will take over and it should be primarily rain-free along with pleasant temperatures in the Mid-Atlantic region.
