Discussion
High pressure will stay in control of our weather today and provide us with continued comfortable temperatures and humidity levels for late August. A weak cool front will cross the region tomorrow night and it’ll become warmer and more humid ahead of the frontal system on Wednesday. That front could spark scattered showers and thunderstorms late tomorrow or early tomorrow night and then another refreshing air mass will push into the Mid-Atlantic for Thursday and Friday anchored by new high pressure. Once that next high pressure system pushes off the east coast at the end of the week, more humid air will return to the region and the threat for showers and thunderstorms will increase as the holiday weekend progresses. Elsewhere, Cristobal has reached weak hurricane status (category 1), but it will remain well off the east coast and head towards the open Atlantic later this week. Another tropical disturbance has formed in the eastern Atlantic and this system - as well as the entire Gulf of Mexico region - will have to be closely monitored during the next several days as atmospheric conditions will be increasingly favorable for tropical storm development.
