11:00 AM | **Roadways could become slick later today in SE PA with dropping temperatures, powerful winds and potential changeover back to sleet/snow**

Paul Dorian

Discussion

Low pressure is now intensifying off of the Mid-Atlantic coastline and this has caused temperatures to drop during the past few hours across northeastern PA and northern New Jersey. In fact, the mid-day and afternoon hours will see the cold air advance to the southwest and rain will change to sleet and/or snow across much of east-central and southeastern PA as well as central and parts of southern NJ. There can even be some small new (minor) accumulations of snow/ice later today. Snow is falling quite heavily at this hour in the Pocono Mountain region of NE PA. Winds will pick up dramatically later this afternoon and evening as the cold air returns and temperatures will then plunge tonight to near 10 degrees in some suburban locations by early tomorrow morning. There can even be some power outages late today caused by wind gusts of up to 50 mph. Untreated roadways could become quite slick late this afternoon or early this evening given the coming drop in temperatures and potential new snow/ice (minor) accumulations. All lingering wet spots on untreated roadways will freeze quickly later today and tonight as temperatures drop some 20 degrees in a 4 or 5 hour period.
