Discussion

Low pressure is reforming off of the Mid-Atlantic coastline this morning and the northward advance of the warming has grinded to a halt. In fact, the mid-day and afternoon hours will feature a pickup in the winds, a drop in the temperatures, and the rain/snow line will drop to the south from its current position across east-central PA and central NJ. As a result, lingering rainfall should actually mix with or change to sleet and/or snow this afternoon and some back end accumulations are even possible before it all ends. Roadways can quickly become quite slick in time for the evening commute with the rapidly dropping temperatures expected later today and possible new snow/ice accumulations. Along with the return of the bitter cold air, winds will pick up dramatically later today and early tonight with gusts to 50 mph possible and even scattered power outages. Low temperatures by early tomorrow are likely to be in the neighborhood of 10 degrees or so in much of the region. After a cold Tuesday, it’ll turn milder on Wednesday before another cold shot arrives in time for Thursday and Friday.
