Discussion
A summer-like weekend is in store for the Mid-Atlantic region with warmth and noticeable humidity. The higher humidity values will have three effects on our weekend weather: 1) expect some clouds on each day 2) there will be a daily threat for a shower or thunderstorm and 3) patchy late night and early morning fog will likely form. By Monday, an approaching cool front will increase the odds for showers and thunderstorms and the summer-like warmth and humidity will persist. Cooler, less humid air should follow the frontal system by the middle of next week.
Elsewhere this weekend, while the Mid-Atlantic is warm and humid, the Rockies and Northern Plains will experience cold conditions and accumulating snow. The clash of cold air across the western US with the warm and humid air in the eastern US, will likely result in severe weather for the central Plains this weekend from Texas to Kansas. Meanwhile, Subtropical Storm Ana has formed off the southern Atlantic coast of the United States - a "home-grown" type of tropical storm - making it the first named tropical system of the 2015 Atlantic Hurricane Season (2015 Tropical Outlook: http://vencoreweather.com/2015/05/05/1000-am-2015-tropical-and-mid-atlantic-summertime-outlooks/).
